Commonwealth Nursing Solutions is Approved as Non-Medical Homecare Provider for Individuals Dealing with an Intellectual or Developmental Disability
Approved as Provider for Supports for Community Living and Michelle P. Waiver
LOUISVILLE, KY, APRIL 25, 2011: Commonwealth Nursing Solutions is a non-medical homecare company providing personal, homemaking and supportive community living services in the Louisville and Lexington areas. In addition to providing homecare services for the elderly, they are now able to extend their services to assist individuals with a developmental or intellectual disability who meet the KY Medicaid financial eligibility requirements. The Michelle P. Waiver (MPW) is a home and community-based waiver under the Kentucky Medicaid program developed as an alternative to institutional care for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Simply put, it allows individuals to remain in their homes with services and supports that lead to a more independent life.
Commonwealth Nursing Solutions is owned by Drs. Greg Ciliberti, Alex Moore (both Internal Medicine physicians), Barbara Newton and Tom Samuels, CPA. This group also owns Precision Healthcare Delivery, which manages two large physician organizations in Kentucky. "I see an increased need for homecare services in my patient population and with my own family" Dr. Ciliberti said. "I can tell you from personal experience when frailer patients or those with chronic diseases, such as diabetes or congestive heart failure, have some assistance in their home setting they are better able to control their symptoms and have fewer acute incidents that result in hospitalizations." Commonwealth Nursing Solutions is unique in that they offer the consultative services of a Registered Pharmacist for medication review and questions, and a nutritionist to assist with special diet recommendations for their clients.
By utilizing the services provided by Commonwealth Nursing Solutions the client remains in their familiar surroundings allowing them to maintain social ties, structure and community involvement which promotes a progression of independence and growth.
Dr. Gordon Strauss, a Board member of Commonwealth Nursing Solutions, and a psychiatrist with the University of Louisville's Department of Psychiatry states there is "a definite need for more assistance in the home setting for this population. Unfortunately, without adequate personal care services, sometimes these individuals can end up in the Emergency Department where their needs might not be appropriately met."
The ongoing planning, implementation and evaluation is readily available to designated family members through the CareLog on their website, www.cnursingsolutions.com. The site also provides a homecare needs assessment tool.
"Commonwealth Nursing Solutions is committed to improving the independence of the elders and disabled in the communities we serve." said Amy Elsbury, Executive Director, Commonwealth Nursing Solutions.
